Dear friends,
After a successful Canada Investment Summit wrapped up earlier this week, I hope you agree with something I told CBC News on Monday: it’s really cool to be Canadian right now.
The Summit offered the chance to showcase our country’s many strengths to international investors, and the buzz in Toronto was infectious. The Prime Minister, premiers, Canadian business leaders and many others shared the same message: Canada is a great place to invest.
What does more investment mean for you and me? It means more jobs and more money flowing into our country leading to improved social programs, better infrastructure, and more opportunity. We all benefit when investors choose Canada.
Next week, MPs will return to Ottawa and they’ve got a lot of work ahead to translate the ambition of the summit into action for Canadians.
Parliamentarians will need to invest in changes to Canada’s policy infrastructure to pave the way for investments in Canada’s capital infrastructure.
That means following through on proposed reforms to major project approvals, trade and transportation systems, and labour relations. We outlined the benefits to these legislative changes in a submission we sent to the government this summer.
We also recognize there is an essential role for the private sector to play in helping our country meet ambitious goals. That’s why we launched the Strengthening Canada Project this spring, looking at ways the public and private sectors can work better together in the best interests of Canada.
The coming months will be consequential for Canada as we aim to make our country stronger and more resilient.
Together, we can achieve great things.
Kind regards,

Last week, the Business Council of Canada concluded a series of national roundtables as part of its Strengthening Canada Project, bringing together business leaders, academics, public-sector policy experts, economists and others to examine how Canada can strengthen its economy and institutions in a more uncertain world.
Launched this spring, the project aims to respond to a rapidly changing global environment, including growing geopolitical uncertainty, shifting trade relationships, intensifying competition for investment and talent, and a renewed focus by governments around the world on economic resilience and national capacity.

As the federal government prepares for Budget 2026, Canada should pursue an investment-led growth strategy that expands the country’s economic capacity without compromising fiscal credibility.
Our pre-budget submission puts forward recommendations focused on productivity, investment, competitiveness and creating the conditions for long-term growth.
We were pleased to see one of our key recommendations – extending 100% accelerated capital cost recovery broadly across capital-intensive sectors – announced at this weeks’ investment summit.
