BCC and KADIN Indonesia sign MOU

Canadian and Indonesian business leaders congratulate Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Prabowo Subianto on the signing of the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) today in Ottawa.

This historic agreement marks an important milestone in the Canada-Indonesia economic relationship. At a time of growing global uncertainty, the CEPA will ensure predictable access to one of Asia’s largest markets and complement Canada’s expanding network of trade agreements across the Asia-Pacific region.

For Indonesia, the agreement will strengthen market access for its goods and services, enhance investment opportunities, and open new pathways for collaboration in innovation, energy transition, food security, and digital economy. The CEPA will also provide Indonesian businesses with a strategic gateway into North America, reinforcing Indonesia’s role as a dynamic hub in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN.

To reinforce the growing bilateral relationship, the Business Council of Canada and KADIN Indonesia (Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during President Prabowo’s visit. The MOU establishes a framework for closer collaboration between Canadian and Indonesian business communities, encouraging trade, investment, and innovation partnerships in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, digital technologies, and sustainable development.

“The signing of CEPA opens a new chapter in the Canada-Indonesia partnership. As the voice of Canada’s largest enterprises, we are committed to ensuring that this agreement translates into meaningful opportunities for companies and workers in both countries. Through our new partnership with KADIN, we will work to deepen business-to-business connections and unlock the full potential of this dynamic relationship,” said Goldy Hyder, president and CEO of the Business Council of Canada.

“The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between KADIN Indonesia and the Business Council of Canada underscores the strong commitment of our private sectors to deepen partnerships, build resilient supply chains, and promote sustainable, inclusive growth,” said Anindya Bakrie, Chairman of KADIN Indonesia.

As Canada and Indonesia celebrate this milestone, both business communities reaffirm their commitment to building lasting economic ties and seizing the opportunities presented by CEPA.
