Council signs MOU with Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry

(Vancouver, B.C., July 3, 2026) The Business Council of Canada (BCC) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at deepening trade, investment and business cooperation between Canada and the Philippines. The signing was witnessed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The agreement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening economic ties between the two countries through enhanced business engagement, policy dialogue, information exchange and commercial collaboration. It also establishes a new Philippines-Canada CEO Dialogue that will bring together senior business leaders from both countries to advance opportunities for bilateral trade and investment.

Under the MOU, the two organizations will work together to promote policies that support stronger economic relations, facilitate trade missions and business delegations, exchange information on investment and commercial opportunities, and organize business events in conjunction with visits by senior government officials.

“Canada and the Philippines share a growing economic relationship built on strong people-to-people connections, complementary economies and a shared commitment to prosperity,” said Goldy Hyder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Business Council of Canada. “This agreement creates a new platform for business leaders to collaborate, identify opportunities and advocate for policies that will strengthen trade and investment between our countries. As Canada seeks to diversify its economic partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region, the Philippines is an increasingly important partner.”

Dr. Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis, Jr., Chairman Emeritus, Treasurer, and Senior Adviser for International Affairs of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed the agreement as an important step toward unlocking new opportunities for businesses in both countries. “The Philippines and Canada have tremendous potential to expand commercial cooperation across a range of sectors, including infrastructure, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, technology and services,” said Ortiz-Luis, Jr. “This Memorandum of Understanding demonstrates our shared commitment to building stronger business-to-business relationships and creating new opportunities for investment, innovation and economic growth. We look forward to working closely with the Business Council of Canada through the Philippines-Canada CEO Dialogue and other initiatives under this partnership.”

The Philippines is one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies and an important partner in the Government of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. The MOU provides a framework for ongoing collaboration between the two organizations and their members as they work to advance mutual economic interests and strengthen bilateral commercial ties.
