Statement on the possible labour disruption at West Jet

August 1st, 2026 – Ottawa, ON — Canadians cannot endure another disruption to national air passenger and cargo transport services due to a labour dispute.
A disruption will cause immediate and extensive harm to the economy and is forcing West Jet to wind down its operations and cancel flights affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers this weekend.
The Business Council of Canada urges all parties to focus on the interest of Canadians and reach an agreement before midnight.
