Statement on the Memorandum of Understanding between Governments of Alberta and Canada

Today’s memorandum of understanding between the federal and Alberta governments represents a long-overdue recognition that Canada’s energy sector is central to developing a strong, independent and resilient economy.  Improved access to global markets can drive investments into Canada and generate meaningful benefits for all Canadians.

Canada has a proven ability to develop its energy and natural resources responsibly and in a way that advances meaningful economic reconciliation.  While much work remains, improving Canada’s ability to move its energy products to tidewater will ensure that Canadians will receive full market value for their resources. As a federation, different levels of government must work together, which is why the Business Council of Canada is pleased to see strong alignment between the federal and Alberta governments. We look forward to working closely with policymakers and stakeholders across the country to translate these commitments into concrete outcomes and an improved ability to invest and build in Canada.
