Statement on Federal Government’s Bill C-5 

Canada’s business leaders work every day to help build a strong and secure country that raises living standards today and for future generations.  The federal government’s Bill C-5 represents a positive step in the same direction, converting government ambition into tangible action. 

This Bill responds directly to the business community’s longstanding calls for the permanent removal of internal trade barriers in Canada. It also reflects the urgent need to build major projects to unleash the country’s economic potential through increased exports of energy, critical minerals, agriculture and agri-food.  

We are encouraged that the legislation includes provisions for deep collaboration across governments, Indigenous peoples and the private sector.  The Bill provides a strong foundation from which we hope to see future improvements to Canada’s public policy environment and investment climate.
