Business Council welcomes the development of a new National Electricity Strategy

The Business Council of Canada (BCC) welcomes the government’s plan to develop a new National Electricity Strategy focused on unleashing clean, reliable and affordable electricity in Canada.

For decades, access to clean and affordable electricity has been a strategic advantage for Canada. It has attracted the investments necessary to grow our natural resources, energy and advanced technologies sectors. As worldwide demand for electricity increases exponentially Canada’s expanding electricity capacity can serve as the country’s calling card for investment in the decades to come.

Last summer, we called on the federal government, in collaboration with provinces and territories, to champion a national effort to produce, store, transmit and distribute reliable and affordable clean electricity to Canadians. Today’s announcement establishes a path for Canada’s electricity advantage to become an even greater competitive strength.
