Zahid Salman joined GreenShield as President and Chief Executive Officer in September 2018 and has led its transformation into Canada’s first “payer-provider”—a health care and insurance organization that integrates coverage and care to deliver a differentiated value proposition to its clients. Uniquely structured as a non-profit, GreenShield reinvests its excess business earnings to advance its social mission of Better Health for All. Under Zahid’s leadership, GreenShield has grown more than 2.5x and now serves over 7.5 million Canadians from coast to coast. During this time, the organization has also been recognized as one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures, a leading Imagine Canada Caring Company, and one of Fortune’s Change the World companies.
Zahid has over 30 years of experience, including executive positions at various international firms. His position at GreenShield, for which he has been recognized as one of Canada’s Most Admired CEOs, combines his extensive background in business management with his passion for people and social impact. Zahid is an actuary who has earned Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designations. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and has obtained his ICD.D designation through the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Zahid currently serves on various Boards within the GreenShield group of companies, including the Board of the Canadian Life & Health Insurance Association (CLHIA), and sits on Catalyst Canada’s Advisory Board. He has also served in leadership roles on several not-for-profit boards, including the Alzheimer’s Society of York Region, the York Region Children’s Aid Society, and the Saint Elizabeth Healthcare Foundation
