Since assuming the role in 2019, he has driven a clear and disciplined reset—sharpening the company’s focus on its core strengths in nuclear energy and engineering, design, and professional services, while uniting the organization around a culture of excellence, innovation, safety, collaboration, and integrity. In 2023, Ian led a significant milestone for the company, unifying the company’s businesses and legacy brands under the single AtkinsRéalis name. More than a change in identity, the rebrand reflected a deeper shift: a clearer strategy, a stronger culture, and a renewed focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for clients, communities, and society.
With the foundations firmly in place, Ian is now focused on the next decade of growth and leadership for AtkinsRéalis. He is guiding the company toward solving the world’s most complex and consequential engineering challenges—across infrastructure and energy, where technical expertise can have the greatest positive impact on people’s lives.
Ian’s leadership is defined by long-term thinking, disciplined execution, and a belief that the most successful companies combine commercial performance with responsibility and purpose. Ian possesses more than three decades of global leadership experience across complex infrastructure and major projects. Recognizing his visionary leadership, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce awarded Ian the International Business Leader of the Year Award in 2024. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and member of the World Economic Forum Governor’s Engineering and Construction Community, the Business Council of Canada and the Wall Street Journal CEO Council.
