As President of Mitsui Canada, Mr. Okano oversees the strategy, management, and operations of Mitsui & Co.’s businesses in Canada. He is responsible for driving sustainable growth, advancing new business development and industrial partnerships, strengthening Mitsui’s local presence and social contributions (CSR), and ensuring alignment with Mitsui’s global strategies and governance standards.

Mr. Okano has more than 30 years of experience at Mitsui & Co., with extensive expertise across energy, natural resources, and strategic investment. He spent nearly two decades in the oil and gas upstream (E&P) sector, where he played a key role in asset acquisitions and business development initiatives across Australia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Asia. His leadership experience includes serving as Director and General Manager of Mitsui E&P Middle East B.V. (Dubai) and overseeing Mitsui’s E&P operations across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.

Beyond the energy sector, Mr. Okano has held senior corporate and strategic roles at Mitsui’s headquarters in Tokyo, contributing to portfolio management, corporate strategy development, and strategic investment initiatives. He later led strategic business development and M&A activities spanning Mitsui’s Chemical, Food, Retail, and Healthcare businesses. Most recently, he served as Office General Manager of the Johannesburg Branch of Mitsui & Co. Europe Plc., leading Mitsui’s operations across South Africa and Southern Africa.

Mr. Okano holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
