Statement on the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement
The Business Council of Canada congratulates the Committee on Internal Trade as well as provincial and territorial governments across Canada for signing the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement (CMRA) on the Sale of Goods. This is an important achievement that reduces regulatory duplication and costs for businesses and opens new markets within Canada. It will help make life more affordable for all Canadians.
But there’s more work to do. We urge governments to build on this momentum and go further in their efforts to permanently remove internal trade barriers applied to services and remaining goods. To fully realize the vision of a seamless one Canadian market, leaders must move with speed and urgency to build a resilient domestic economy that serves the interests of Canadians. Our domestic economy should be free of internal restrictions and tariffs.
We encourage governments to work with the private sector to eliminate all internal barriers so Canada can realize its full economic potential — for businesses, workers, and consumers.
