Guy Turcotte

Guy Turcotte was born in Wainwright, Alberta in 1952 and graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in 1972 with a diploma in Gas Technology (honors). He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering (honors) in 1975 at the University of Tulsa, followed by a Masters of Business Administration degree in 1976 at the University of Alberta.

Guy is the Chairman, Founder, President and CEO, and sole shareholder in Stone Creek Resorts, a privately-owned company which owns two major real estate developments. The SilverTip project includes a 700 housing unit development, a world-class golf course, and a 1200-unit resort village as part of a $1.5 billion international destination resort. The second project is in Invermere, British Columbia. An 18-hole championship golf course opened in 1999 with 300-500 units of residential real estate to be developed over the next five to ten years.

Mr. Turcotte founded Chauvco Resources Ltd. in January 1981. After successfully completing an initial $2,020,000 public offering, Chauvco began operations in December 1981. Chauvco Resources was sold to Pioneer Natural Resources Limited of Houston, Texas in 1997 for approximately $1.3 billion.

In September 1997, Mr. Turcotte founded and created Fort Chicago Energy Partners L.P. and raised a total of $380 million through a public issue rights offering to Chauvco shareholders. Mr. Turcotte held the position of President and CEO until December 2002 and was Chairman from September 1997 until December 2007 when he retired from the Board of Directors.

Mr. Turcotte is a founder of Western Oil Sands Inc. and was Chairman until October 18, 2007. From July 1999 until April 15, 2005, Mr. Turcotte held the position of Chief Executive Officer. Western is a 20 percent participant in the $5.7 billion, 155,000 barrels per day Athabasca Oil Sands project, which came on stream in late 2002.

From 1984 to 1988, and from 1989 to 1994, Guy served on the Board of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). He has served on various Boards in the industry and is a member of the World Presidents’ Organization as well as the Canadian Council of Chief Exexcutives.

Guy received the Independent Petroleum Association of Canada Chairman’s award in 1990. He also received the Wall Street Transcript Gold award for outstanding CEO in the category of Canadian Junior Oil Producers in 1990 and, in 1991, received the same award in the Canadian Intermediate Oil Producer category. The Pinnacle Award honouring Entrepreneurship in Alberta was presented to Guy in 1991. Guy was the first recipient of NAIT’s Alumni Award of Distinction in April 1997. In October 2007, Guy was presented with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award® for the Energy Producers sector of the Prairies Division.
